Prevention Services at OAS
Everyone is deserving and worthy of having healthy relationships; whether that is with friends, family, romantic partners, classmates, or even yourself. Workshops and programming on healthy relationship building is the foundation of creating a safe and healthy GW community.
OAS is available to lead or collaborate on a workshop for your student organization, residence hall, class, or staff/faculty group. We are eager to build a workshop based on whatever you would like to discuss or learn. You can choose a workshop from our frequently requested topics or we can work with you to deliver a program that addresses your specific needs.
OAS Fall Semester Training Offerings
How to Access Confidential Support and Advocacy After Experiencing Sexual Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, Domestic Violence, or Stalking
This training will provide an overview of available resources for students impacted by sexual violence, domestic violence, intimate partner violence (IPV), and stalking. This will include a brief overview of available on and off-campus resources that students can be connected with for additional support.

Trauma-Informed Care
This training will lay the foundation for practices in trauma-informed care when supporting youth. It will also discuss trauma at the individual level, interpersonal, and community level, as well as the impact of secondary trauma on staff and faculty. Participants will develop skills to engage in supportive, non-judgmental, and effective communication when receiving disclosures of violence.

Trauma-Informed Communication
This training will introduce foundational practices in trauma-informed care for those supporting youth. In addition to examining trauma at the individual, interpersonal, and community levels—and the impact of secondary trauma on staff and faculty—it will place particular emphasis on developing effective communication skills. Participants will learn how to respond to disclosures of violence with empathy, non-judgment, and clarity, fostering trust and safety while connecting individuals to appropriate support.

Introduction to Intimate Partner Violence
This training offers an overview of intimate partner violence (IPV), including its dynamics, warning signs, and the barriers survivors may face in seeking support. Participants will learn how to respond appropriately and compassionately to disclosures of IPV, with a focus on survivor-centered, trauma-informed approaches. The session will also cover practical strategies for supporting survivors in a non-judgmental manner, safety planning, and connecting survivors with appropriate resources.

How to Request A Training
You can request a training by filling out our Training Request Form. If possible, please request trainings at least two weeks in advance to give our Office time to prepare and work with you to make this training amazing!
